SAMUEL TROY SHEPHERD - NEW FITNESS PHENOM

This hot new physique competitor and fitness model is only 20 and comes from a small town in West Virginia; he is currently attending the University of West Virginia...amazingly, he just recently won the 2013 Collegiate National Men's Physique Championship; and had photoshoots with Pat Lee, Allen Spiers, and Bill Comstock....and is being featured in the December issue of Muscle and Fitness Magazine....WOW

It all started when top fitness guru Alon Gabbay was given his pics by a friend. Alon then went on to feature Sam in a few videos on his page. The videos got a lot of good attention and he suggested that Sam make his own facebook page. His page is doing really well and is now at 55k after 5 months.

Sam recently had photoshoots in Chicago, Pittsburgh, L.A., and Miami with some awesome photographers. He spent 4 days in all these cities this summer, he met people that he looked up to and got to train in Golds Gym Venice and Quads Gym Chicago, among others.

Pat Lee (Chicago)

Allan Spiers (Pittsburgh)

Bill Comstock (L.A.)

While he was out in LA., he did a photoshoot for Muscle and Fitness with Matt Christianer (http://www.mattchristianer.com/), a top Mr. Olympia Men's Physique Competitor.  The shoot was in Gold's gym and the article comes out in the December issue. It was also shot by Bill Comstock.

While he was training in Gold's, Chris Cormier and Matt convinced him to compete; and he did his first competition and won the Overall.

Cruz did a great job of capturing Rodriguez’s muscular arms and bold tattoos for the DNA shoot.

Filters

"We don't see things as they are; we see things as we are."

I saw this picture online. Ever seen the most beautiful girl in the world believing she's unlovely? Perhaps there is reality, and then there is our reality. Our reality is the precipitate of the real world, sifted through natural, internal and external sieves.

i. Physical Senses

I can only perceive the material world through my 5 senses. Things around me might have dimensions other than how it looks, sounds, taste, smell and feels. An elephant may exist as an entirely different thing from what I think it is, because I only experience the creature through my limited senses.

ii. Emotional States

Reality swings from good to bad and bad to good depending on our state of mind. When I am happy, the world is a rosier place. My future looks bright, reality is amazing (: When I am sad, I miss out on even the good things in life. Nothing is as bad as it seems-our emotions colour our view on the world.

iii. Other People

Other people's opinion shapes what we think. Whether I find something beautiful, good or bad depends in some measure on how other people have valued it before me. Everyone loves to dine at Lawry's Steakhouse, so I believe it is good. The reality becomes ''Lawry's is good."I feel lousy today, but when mum tells me I am a confident, wonderful person, I feel like I am lovely. Our reality is (to some extent) influenced by the filters of other people's judgement.

Perception is reality. Our perceptions can be changed. Many times it is because of the filters we have on. Tweak them once in a while- Seeing yourself through the eyes of loved ones, resuming work after a good nap and exercise- Reality becomes a little closer to what it ought to be! (:

The little shed in Ibiza

Hey girlies!

This one is for you. Hardly any time for updates lately but here's to you lovelies who follow this space! I know for most of you school term is about to hit its climax. For those of you bemoaning that the only thing going down on you this year... is your GPA, take heart! Su has found a verse just for you (:

Was thinking about this Tennyson poem on the way to Alyssandra's shoot on Saturday and found it inspiring. It had such gravitas... turns out it was read out in the latest Bond 007 movie. I dedicate this to all my friends feeling much older than they look.

Strange Strangers

A rugged middle-aged couple, wild horse ranchers in the hills of Ibiza. My friend Tom and I drove for hours along winding dirt roads in search for their horse-riding reserve. We saw them at a cafe. They took us to the plains.

We lounged with them in a little shed they had built themselves. Time stood still in this place. There were no clocks. We sat, and looked at our hosts. In the simmering light, they seemed weathered, but undefeated. Their eyes, though wrinkled, flirted with beauty, flirted with us. In between long exhales of smoke, the couple recounted their reckless youth, of drugs, lovers, wild parties and exotic travel. Occasional bursts of hysterical laughter and teasing on their side. It seemed as though their souls stood outside of time, outside its ravages, outside its decay; young forever.

At about 5pm Ibiza time, lazing atop the stunning Spanish mountains, they suddenly concluded: "life is a struggle!"

Then they kissed.

I looked at Tom, and he looked at me. And we marveled at them.
At dinner we raised our glass to an amazing couple, who were past the bloom, but not the vigor of life.

“Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

-Lord Tennyson, Ulysses
